UMass Women's Rowing Takes Third At Dad Vails

Philadelphia, Penn. - The UMass women's rowing team took third at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. Ohio State won the team competition with 22 points. Purdue was second with 21 and UMass and Saint Joseph's tied for third with 17 points.
UMass' varsity eight finished third in the finals of their event, completing the course in 6:37.35. Purdue was first (6:31.36) and Saint Joseph's was second (6:34.49). The varisty eight won its two heats to get to the finals. In the first heat, UConn was second, and in the second heat, Ohio State was second. The varsity eight included rowers Tara Guinan, Rachael Nealer, Haley Fitzgerald, Airlina Burrill, Sarah Marsan, Hannah Brewster, Ellen Maskrey, Gabrielle Papineau, and coxswain Dana Pulda.
The junior varsity eight finished fourth in the finals with a time of 6:59.48. Buffalo was the winner in this event. UMass won its first heat over Temple by more than 11 seconds. In the second heat, UMass took third, with Buffalo winning. The junior varsity eight included rowers Julie Markus, Kristen Boyce, Courtney Mulvihill, Karalyn Walk, Erin Kelly, Elizabeth Hayashida, Amanda Mawn, Andrea Morand, and coxswain Molly Morgan.
The lightweight eight came in fifth in the finals with a time of 7:10.62. Ohio State won the event with a time of 6:52.98. UMass was second in its heat to Lehigh to earn its spot in the finals. Lehigh barely nosed out UMass 7:22.36 to 7:25.49. The lightweight included Jessica Romain, Amy Rayla, Brittany Cartin, Laura Silverman, Maria Arcari, Julie Pulda, Sarah Potts, Abby Lively, and coxswain Jeanine LeDoux.
The novice eight finished fourth in its final event that was won by Ohio State. They had finished second in their heat to Philadelphia University. The novice eight included Allison Donzanti, Chelsea Finnegan, Meghan Caffrey, Samantha Smith, Jennifer Rivero, Anna Kenseth, Jenna Oelschlegel, Sarah Albert, and coxswain Melissa D'Amico.
The novice four won their heat over San Diego by over four seconds. The Minutewomen crossed the finish line in 8:00.48 to San Diego's 8:05.09. The novice four went on to come in fourth in the final, that was won by Purdue. The novice four included Lindsay Dawson, Stacey Susienka, Kathryn Kern, Claire Champine, and coxswain Erin Flaherty.
