Current Employment? The University of Louisville
Previous employment/positions? I was the asst. coach at Temple University (1990-92), asst. coach at Michigan State University (1993-96) and head coach at Hofstra University (1997).
Toughest player you ever played with/against? TOUGHEST player I played WITH at UMass was Julie Stuart. She was strong and mean on the field! TOUGHEST I ever played against.. There are so many, but probably Diane Madl from UConn. We were the same year, so we battled directly opposite each other for 4 years.
How would/did your UMass team mates describe you? Whoa, you should ask them! But I hope it would be that I was completely dedicated to UMass, that they found my sarcasm as hysterical as I did, and that I just wanted us to WIN!
Fondest memory/ies? My teammates! I had the BEST teammates! The week of preparation for the NCAA's were always the best. Something funny always happened as we were trying to be so intense! Practicing in the Western Mass crazy weather. Our spring indoor tournament at Boyden and lugging those railroad ties up 3 flights! What were we thinking? Oh, never mind, we weren't thinking. Pam told us to do it! And of course, everyday at Puffton Village!
Qualities of UMass Field Hockey player: Guts, grit, teammates first, hockey heads¡Kwe loved to play!!!
Why you attended UMass? We had a great coach and a great team. I also loved Western Mass.
Traditions you would like to see come back? NCAA tournament appearances! ROLL UMASS
Last UMass Field Hockey game watched? Versus the University of Louisville in 2003
What was your typical pre-game meal? Blueberry Belgium Waffle from ROOSTERS!
Did you have any superstitions? The ceremonial 80's headband roll and of course, the WINGS!
What was your favorite warm-up song? It is wrong that you must ask "Proud Mary!" ("Ain't No Mountain!" is a close second)
Who was/is your favorite sports icon? In college my 3 favorite sport icons were: Martina Navratilova, Wayne Gretsky, and Michael Jordan. They are the same today, but Tiger Woods is added to the list!
If you change one thing about your time as a player at UMass, what would you change? Better uniforms and a better haircut, but it did not matter at all then! When you have to look back, YIKES!
Who was you favorite team to play against?/Most dreaded? LOVED our UCONN games.. good friends became great competitors. I really did not "dread" playing anyone.
What was the best advice a coach ever gave you? Be early to practice and stay late to help collect the balls. (Sue Marcellus- 1980 US Olympic F.H. Team)
What was your feeling playing in your last college game? AWFUL¡ GREAT year with an amazing team ended too soon. Missed opportunity!
Quote/mantra you live by? "Success is the journey, not the destination," so celebrate every day, and "Nothing goes away!" So live true and be real.
