Minutewomen Take Second Place at URI Mega Meet

Kingstown, RI - The Minutewomen had their best finish so far this season taking second place at the URI Mega Meet hosted by the University of Rhode Island on Saturday. Top performances of the day came from the team of junior Ashley Davidson (Natick, Mass.), junior Britt Canfield (Southwick, Mass.), freshman Stephanie Mattar (Deer Park, N.Y.), and junior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) who placed first in the distance medley with a time of 12:47.85. Another top finish came from the team of junior Jen Rippel (North Reading, Mass.), freshman Nicole Serapiglia (Northboro, Mass.), junior Kristen Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.) and junior Kendra Leighton (Brockton, Mass.) who placed third in the 4x400 meter relay to finish with a time of 4:11.48.
In other track events, sophomore Dionise Miranda (Brockton, Mass.) placed fourth in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.53 seconds and placed fifth in the 200 meter dash in 26.77 seconds. Freshman Holly Heinricher (Foxboro, Mass.) placed fifth in the 55 meter dash in 7.77 seconds and also took sixth place in the 200 meter dash in 27.01 seconds. Senior Dawn Cheri Soares (New Bedford, Mass.) had a seasonal best time of 7.91 seconds to take sixth place in the 55 meter dash. In the 55 meter hurdles, freshman Alexandra Haller (Marblehead, Mass.) had a seasonal best time of 8.90 seconds to take third place.
In the mile run, junior Amber Sayer (Amherst, Mass.) finished in sixth place with a time of 5:17.04. Ashley Davidson placed fifth in the 1000 meter run with a time of 3:08.85. Junior Amanda Bodette (East Middlebury, Vt.) place ninth in the 1000 meter run with a seasonal best time of 3:17.99. In the 3000 meter run, senior Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) took seventh place with a time of 10:52.35.
In field events, senior Katelyn O'Toole (North Andover, Mass.) placed third in the high jump competition with a height of 5 feet, 1 inch. Sophomore Elizabeth Biehl (Northboro, Mass.) and Alexandra Haller tied for sixth place with a height of 5 feet, 1 inch. In the pole vault competition, freshman Molly Chapin (Northfield, Mass.) took second place with a height of 10 feet. Senior Troyanah Evans (Cambridge, Mass.) placed third in the long jump competition with a jump of 16 feet, 5.25 inches, while Dionise Miranda took fifth place with a jump of 16 feet, ¼ inches. Freshman Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) placed third in the shot put competition with a seasonal best throw of 36 feet, 9.5 inches. In the weight throw competition, Wilson placed sixth with a throw of 40 feet, 2 inches.
Overall, the Minutewomen took second place while the University of Rhode Island finished first. On Friday, February 9, the Minutewomen will travel to Boston, Massachusetts to take part in the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University.
