Minutewomen Place Tenth at Atlantic 10 Championships

Kingston, R.I. - The Minutewomen placed tenth at the Atlantic 10 Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island. Top performances of the day came from junior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) who placed third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 17:38.73. Overall, there were six Minutewomen who had seasonal best performances.
In the 55 meter dash preliminaries, sophomore Dionise Miranda (Brockton, Mass.) placed eighteenth with a seasonal best time of 7.44 seconds. Right behind in nineteenth place was freshman Holly Heinricher (Foxboro, Mass.) with a time of 7.58 seconds. In the 200 meter dash, both Miranda and Heinricher both had seasonal best finishes. Miranda placed seventieth with a time of 26.46 seconds, while Heinricher placed twenty-first with a time of 26.82 seconds.
In the 500 meter run, junior Jennifer Curtain (Medford, N.Y.) placed thirteenth with a time of 1:21.72. Freshman Stephanie Mattar (Deer Park, N.Y.) took sixth place in the 800 meter run with a seasonal best time of 2:21.09. Junior Ashley Davidson (Natick, Mass.) also had a seasonal best time of 3:03.42 to take fifth place in the 1000 meter run. In the 5000 meter run, senior Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.) placed seventeenth with a time of 18:42.33, while senior Amber Sayer (Amherst, Mass.) was right behind in eighteenth place with a time of 18:43.81.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of junior Brittany Canfield (Southwick, Mass.), freshman Brittany Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.), junior Kendra Leighton (Brockton, Mass.), and freshman Nicole Serapiglia (Northboro, Mass.) placed seventh with a time of 4:07.04. In the 4x800 meter relay, Stephanie Mattar, Jennifer Curtain, Amber Sayer, and senior Erin O'Donnell (Reading, Mass.) placed ninth with a time of 9:52.06. The team of freshman Shiyi Zan (Ottawa, Ontario), freshman Michelle Finley (Boston, Mass.), Ashley Davidson, and Christina DeRosa placed eighth in the distance medley with a time of 12:44.07.
In field events, freshman Molly Chapin (Northfield, Mass.) took fifth place in the pole vault competition with a seasonal best height of 10 feet, 4 inches. Senior Dawn Cheri Soares (New Bedford, Mass.) took eleventh place in the long jump competition with a distance of 16 feet, 8.5 inches. Freshman Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) had two seasonal best finishes in field events. Wilson took ninth place in the shot put competition with a throw of 36 feet, 2.75 inches and eighth place in the weight throw competition with a throw of 44 feet, 8 inches.
Overall, Charlotte took first place in the Atlantic 10 Championships. Next Friday, the Minutewomen will travel to Boston to take part in the New England Championships.
