AMHERST, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts junior forward Kate Mills (Elkton, Md.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball co-Player of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. This is the second Player of the Week honor for Mills this season as she shared this week's award with Ayahna Cornish of Saint Joseph's.
Mills averaged 18.0 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 4.0 apg, 3.5 bpg and 1.5 spg in back-to-back double-doubles as UMass went 1-1 in a pair of conference games last week. Mills shot 49 percent (16-33) from the field and 80 percent (4-5) at the free throw line. She scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in UMass' loss against Xavier on Sunday. That followed an 11-point, 10-rebound performance in the Minutewomen's win over Duquesne Friday night. This is the second time that Mills has tallied a double-double in consecutive games this year.
The Minutewomen (15-12, 5-7 A-10) close out the regular season with a pair of crucial road games this week as several teams jockey for positioning in next week's Atlantic 10 Championship. UMass begins the week with a game at Dayton on Thursday at 7:00 PM and currently sits one game behind Dayton in the latest A-10 standings. The Minutewomen then conclude the regular season with a 1:00 PM game at Fordham on Sunday. You can listen to both games this week on WMUA, 91.1 FM in Amherst, and online at www.umassathletics.com. Broadcast time is 15 minutes prior to tip-off.
