Minutewomen Continue to Improve Performances at BU Valentine Invitational

Boston, Mass. - The Minutewomen continued to improve their performances this past Saturday at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University. Top performances of the day included junior Christina DeRosa (Sound Beach, N.Y.) who placed eighteenth in the 5000 meter to finish with a time of 17:44.70. This was her first time running the 5000 meter this season. Another top performance came from freshman Molly Chapin (Northfield, Mass.) who finished fifteenth in the pole vault competition with a seasonal best height of 10 feet, ½ inch.
In other events, sophomore Dionise Miranda (Brockton, Mass.) finished with a seasonal best time of 7.47 seconds to place twenty-third in the 55 meter dash preliminaries. Miranda also had a seasonal best time of 26.34 seconds in the 200 meter dash to place fiftieth. Freshman Holly Heinricher (Foxboro, Mass.) placed thirty-ninth with a time of 7.62 seconds in the 55 meter dash preliminaries. Heinricher also placed sixty-second in the 200 meter dash with a seasonal best 26.62 seconds.
Junior Brittany Canfield (Southwick, Mass.)placed sixty-eighth in the 400 meter dash to finish with a time of 1:01.18. Right behind in sixty-ninth place was freshman Nicole Serapiglia (Northboro, Mass.) with a time of 1:01.19. For both Canfield and Serapiglia, it was the first time this season running in this event. Freshman Brittany Bakanowski (Northboro, Mass.) also ran the 400 meter dash with a seasonal best time of 1:01.52 to finish seventy-sixth.
In the 800 meter run, junior Ashley Davidson (Natick, Mass.) placed eighty-first with a time of 2:23.81. Right behind were freshman Stephanie Mattar (Deer Park, N.Y.) in eighty-third place with a time of 2:24.18, and junior Jennifer Curtain (Medford, N.Y.) in eighty-eighth place with a seasonal best time of 2:24.58.
Freshman Shiyi Zan (Ottawa, Ontario) placed forty-seventh in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:33.33, while senior Erin O'Donnell (Reading, Mass.) placed eighty-first with a seasonal best time of 10:57.89. In the 5000 meter run, senior Cuisle Kierans (Newbury, Mass.)placed thirty-fifth with a time of 18:43.36.
In field events, senior Katelyn O'Toole (North Andover, Mass.) placed twenty-second in the high jump competition with a height of 5 feet, ¼ inch. Sophomore Elizabeth Biehl (Northboro, Mass.) and freshman Alex Haller (Marblehead, Mass.) also placed twenty-second with a height of 5 feet, ¼ inch.
In the long jump competition, senior Dawn Cheri Soares (New Bedford, Mass.) placed twenty-seventh with a distance of 16 feet, 2.25 inches, while senior Troyanah Evans (Cambridge, Mass.) placed forty-fifth with a distance of 15 feet, ¾ inch.
Freshman Lisa Wilson (Holden, Mass.) had two seasonal best performances in the shot put and weight throw. Wilson placed twenty-sixth in the shot put competition with a throw of 36 feet, 2.75 inches. In the weight throw competition, Wilson placed twenty-third with a throw of 42 feet, 9.5 inches.
Next Saturday the Minutewomen will travel to Kingston, Rhode Island to take part in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
