Two Minutewomen Reach Quarterfinals Of Cissy Leary Invitational

A Pair of women's tennis players reached the quarterfinals of their brackets at the Cissy Leary Invitational on Friday. Senior Michele Spiess had two hard-fought wins and now will face Milena Kachar of Columbia tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Junior Masha Pozar will face Radka Feraneova of Temple.

In singles Group A, Michele Spiess started the day by defeating Amanda Avedissan of the host Pennsylvania Quakers, 6-1, 6-4. In round two, she defeated Mariana Spilea of Minnesota, 6-3, 6-4. She will face Milena Kachar of Columbia in the quarterfinals.

In singles Group B, Masha Pozar defeated Angela Hendry of Columbia in a highly competitive match, 7-6 (5) 6-2. Pozar then went on to beat Lindsay Risebrough of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-2. She moves on to the quarterfinals where she will play Radka Feraneova from fellow Atlantic 10 school, Temple.

In doubles action, Spiess and Pozar defeated a team of Angela Dipastina (Ohio State) and Elizabeth Googe (Cornell). In round 2, they fell victim to a freshman duo of Wong and Tansil of Penn, 8-6. They move on to the consolation bracket tomorrow.
