Amherst, Mass. - After an outstanding season on the courts, the UMass women's tennis team has been recognized for its work in the classroom. The Minutewomen were selected as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team. In addition, eight Minutewomen were honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes for their individual accomplishments.

The team award goes to any school that has a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. This year, only 92 Division I schools qualified. UMass has won the award for the eight time in the last nine years.

To garner the individual Scholar-Athlete honor, a player must have a grade point average of at least 3.50, have been enrolled at UMass for at least two semesters, and have been a varsity letterwinner. Emily Asselin, Kristin DiPiero, Lesley Fisher, Stephanie Gimenez, Dorothy Iwanowicz, Susan Johnson, Masha Pozar, and Michele Spiess all received ITA Scholar-Athlete status.

UMass looks to build upon last season's successful third-place finish. They open up fall play at the Eastern Collegiate Invitational on September 15th.
