Lively Named A-10 Rowing Student-Athlete Of Year

Amherst, Mass. - UMass' Abby Lively has been named the Atlantic 10 Student-Athlete of the Year in women's rowing. Teammates Hannah Brewster and Gabrielle Papineau, along with Lively, were named to the Academic All-Conference team by the Atlantic 10. UMass' rowing team has now had 24 Academic All-Conference selections since the award was started in 1996.
Lively was a member of the UMass crew that won the Lighweight 4 at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championship this year, helping the Minutewomen to an unprecedented 11th straight A-10 team title. Lively, a senior from Rowe, Mass., maintains a 3.95 grade point average as a kinesiology major. In addition to rowing in the lightweight four, she has also rowed in the lightweight eight. Her boats earned silver medals at the Head of the Fish and bronze at the Head of the Textile in the fall.
Brewster was a member of the A-10 champion quad in each of the last two years. She also rowed in the varsity eight that won the Knecht Cup and Yankee Cup the last two years and the A-10 and ECAC Championships last year. Brewster, a junior from Plymouth, Mass., has a 3.8 grade point average in kiniesology and was named a National Scholar-Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association in 2005.
Papineau was also a member of the A-10 champion quad this year. She also rowed in the varsity eight that won the Knecht Cup and Yankee Cup the last two years and the A-10 and ECAC Championships last year. Papineau, a senior from Ottawa, Ontario, has a 3.7 grade point average in exercise science and was named a National Scholar-Athlete by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association in 2005.
UMass continues its season on Saturday May 6 and Sunday May 6 at Worcester at the ECAC Championship.
