AMHERST, Mass. -- Massachusetts women's basketball head coach Marnie Dacko has announced that Valerie Avebe (Cameroon/Tilton School) has signed a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period. She is a 6-2 forward originally from Cameroon in Africa who currently attends Tilton School in New Hampshire. She joins Stephanie Lawrence (Rigaud, Quebec/John Abbott CGEP), Cerie Mosgrove (Needham, Mass./Needham) and Teya Wright (Paterson, N.J./Rosa Parks/Eastside) who already signed this week.
"Valerie is yet another talented student-athlete added to an already solid class," said Dacko. "She possesses unlimited potential and will develop into a strong collegiate player. Valerie will give us more depth in the forward potion and immediately help address our rebounding needs. She comes from a strong athletic background."
Avebe averaged 10 points and nine rebounds a game last year as the Tilton Rams advanced to the semifinals of the The New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC). She was her team's MIP last season. Last summer, Avebe played for the New England Crusaders AAU basketball team and attended the Boo Williams Tourney, Lady Belles Tourney in Connecticut, Nike Slam in New Jersey, Blue Star Tourney in Fairfax, Va. and U.S. Junior Nationals. Her sister, Danielle, is a professional volleyball player in France and plays for the Cameroon National Team.
"As a player, Valerie's talent developed substantially in her second season with us," said Tilton Head Coach Michael Landroche. "While relatively new to the game, Valerie has boundless potential. I am confident that she will have an excellent college career."
