AMHERST, Mass. - UMass field hockey freshman forward Cher King (Christ Church, Barbados) was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. King had a goal and an assist as the Minutewomen split a pair of conference games. This is her first career honor. She split the award with Richmond's Lindsey Conrad.
King's goal was the only score of the game in a 1-0 win over Saint Louis last Friday. It was her first career game-winning goal and came with just under 20 minutes left in regulation. King also picked up an assist in Sunday's loss at No. 18 Richmond.
King has recorded at least one point now in four of her last five games and is second on the team with 13 points on five goals and three assists.
King and the Minutewomen will head to Philadelphia for a huge weekend of A-10 games. UMass will take on West Chester Friday at 3:00 p.m. and then La Salle Sunday at Noon. Live stats of both games are available via Gametracker at www.umassathletics.com.
