Former Minuteman Doug Clark Called Up To Giants

Amherst, Mass, - Former UMass outfielder Doug Clark was promoted by the San Francisco Giants to the major league club for the rest of the season. Clark was an All-Atlantic 10 selection in 1997 as an outfielder for the Minutemen, and will be activated for Wednesday afternoon's game with San Diego Padres.
This will be Clark's first opportunity in the majors. He gets called up after hitting .316 with 13 home runs and 59 runs batted in for the Giants AAA affiliate in Fresno in the Pacific Coast League.
Clark was drafted in the seventh round of the 1998 Major League Baseball Draft by the Giants and has spent the last five seasons fluctuating between AA and AAA baseball. Prior to this season, he play for the Norwich Navigators, the Giants' AA team. There, he hit .292 with 10 homeruns and 71 RBI. He owns a career .291 average with a .363 OBP.
Clark finished his career at UMass in 1998 and left as the Minutemen's third-leading RBI man with 137 and is fourth all-time in batting with a .366 average. He holds the single season record for games player with 53 (1996). He also has the third-highest batting average (.415) and RBI total (60) for a single season, setting both of those in 1997.
The Giants currently trail the Padres by five games in the National League West.
