AMHERST, Mass. -- For the sixth time in the last seven years, the University of Massachusetts tennis team has been named a All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). In addition, Sasha Edelstein (pictured), Susan Johnson, Michele Spiess, Masha Pozar and Sarah Jackson were each named ITA Scholar-Athletes.

This marks the sixth time in the last seven years that the Minutewomen have been honored with a team GPA of over 3.4. Five of the eight members of the team were honored individually. UMass, Dayton and Xavier were the only Atlantic 10 institutions to receive this prestigious award. With five student-athletes selected as ITA Scholar-Athletes, UMass and Dayton tied for the most in the league.

UMass was one of 77 Division I women's programs to earn All-Academic honors from the ITA this year. In order to qualify for the award, a program must have had a team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale) for the entire 2004-2005 academic year. In order to qualify as an ITA Scholar Athlete, an individual must be a varsity letterwinner with a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale), and must have been enrolled at her present school for at least two semesters.

The Minutewomen went 17-7 last season and advanced to the A-10 Championship match.
