AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts outfielder Jason Twomley became the second Minuteman in 2005 to be taken in the MLB draft. Twomley was selected No. 738 overall by the Boston Red Sox. His teammate, Matt Torra, was taken No. 31 overall yesterday.
Twomley was named to the Atlantic 10 First Team for the first time in 2005. This season, the Fitchburg, Mass. native was in the top-five of numerous A-10 statistical categories, including slugging%, home runs, walks, runs scored and on base%. He led the Minutemen in runs (46), triples (1), home runs (16), total bases (98), slugging% (.700), walks (34) and on base% (.467). He was a one-time A-10 Player of the Week and UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week.
