Matt Torra Dubbed Atlantic 10 Pitcher Of The Year

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -

The Atlantic 10 announced on Tuesday the 2005 conference honors. Junior right handed pitcher Matt Torra and senior outfielder Jason Twomley were both A-10 First Team selections, while Torra was named the conference's Pitcher of the Year.

Torra is only the second UMass pitcher to earn the honor. Jay Murphy was the University's other recipient (1995). The Pittsfield, Mass. native led the A-10 in strikeouts (111), while his 1.14 ERA is tops in the conference and second in the nation.

Torra's First Team honor is the first of his career. This season alone, Matt has been a three-time conference Pitcher of the Week and two-time UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week.

Jason Twomley is a 2005 A-10 First Team selection.

Jason Twomley's First Team honor is also the first of his career. In 2005, the Fitchburg, Mass. outfielder was in the top-five of numerous A-10 statistical categories, including slugging%, home runs, walks, runs scored and on base%. He led the Minutemen in runs, triples, home runs, total bases, slugging%, walks and on base%. He was a one-time A-10 Player of the Week and UMass/Dinn Bros. Athlete of the Week.
