Amherst, Mass. - Four UMass rowers were named National Scholar Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association. Catherine Gariepy was named to the team for the second straight year, while Hannah Brewster, Kristina Ferraro, and Gabrielle Papineau were first time winners.

To be named a National Scholar Athlete by the CRCA, a rower has to have a 3.5 grade point average or higher and compete in 75 percent of the team's 2005 spring races.

All four of the rowers were in the Atlantic 10 champion varsity eight. Gariepy (Lorraine Quebec) is a junior exercise science major. Brewster (Andover, Mass.) is a sophomore exercise science major. Ferraro (Columbus, Ohio) is a sophomore English major. Papineau (Ottawa, Ontario) is a junior exercise science major.
