AMHERST, Mass. - Making up for rain dates in early April, the Minutemen and La Salle Explorers will begin the final regular season series on Friday in Amherst. Friday's doubleheader will begin at Noon as will the season finale on Saturday. Saturday will also be senior day, recognizing the collegiate careers of Keith Doherty, David Sullivan, Curt Szado and Jason Twomley.

The seniors have played in a combined 361 games for Massachusetts. A left handed pitcher and 2005 captain, Doherty went 11-17 in that span, including a season-high four wins as a sophomore in 2003. Sullivan has pitched for three seasons, winning two of his three wins in 2005--vs. Miami (Ohio) and Temple.

Szado and Twomley have been staples in the outfield for the Minutemen. Szado had a career-high .435 average in 2002 and has hit .304 in his career. In his final season, he has set new personal-bests for runs (24), hits (49), RBI (31) and slugging percentage (.454).

Twomley has also enjoyed a stellar senior season. His 16 home runs placed him second on UMass' all-time list, just three behind the leader. Prior to 2005, he had only hit two home runs per season. The right fielder has also set new standards for hitting (.323), runs (44), RBI (29) and slugging percentage (.738). He currently leads the team with a .323 average.

Junior ace Matt Torra will pitch Friday's first game, which is scheduled to start at Noon. Due to graduation, no rain dates will be set in the event of inclement weather.
