Women's Rowing Claims 10th Straight Atlantic 10 Title

The University of Massachusetts women's rowing team won its 10th Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship this afternoon on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J.
The Minutewomen won three of the nine races, posting 45 total points. Dayton finished second with 39 points. George Washington was third with 36 points, followed by Rhode Island with 24 points. Finishing up the field was Fordham (23 points), Saint Joseph's (23 points), Duquesne (13 points), Temple (12 points), and La Salle (0 points.)
UMass won gold in the Quad (7:30.7), Varsity 4 (8:30.1) and Varsity 8 (6:59.3) on their way to the team title. George Washington also captured three events, the Novice 8-A (7:31.3), Novice 8-B (7:47.3), and 2nd Varsity 8 (7:19.9). Dayton picked up a victory in the Lightweight 4 (8:48.4) and Lightweight 8 (7:30.6). Saint Joseph's won the Novice 4 in 8:32.9.
There were no meet records broken on the day.
For the seventh time in 10 years, Massachusetts' Jim Dietz was tabbed Coach of the Year in voting done among the Conference's head coaches. Dietz previously collected the honor in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2003, and 2004.
