Amherst, Mass. - The UMass women's rowing team will open the 2005 spring season this weekend with a pair of regattas. On Saturday, the Minutewomen will be in Rhode Island for the Yankee Cup. Racing begins at 1 p.m. at URI's Campanella Rowing Center. Then on Sunday, they will be in New York to race Columbia. Races commence at 10:30 a.m.

Last season, UMass won the Yankee Cup, defeating New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. The same four schools will compete for the Yankee Cup at Kingston, R.I., on Saturday.

Turn left at 218th Street and proced down the block to the second entrance to the Baker Field Athletic Complex (Gate C). Proceed to the first intersection and make a left onto Broadway. -Follow Broadway to W. 218th Street (Twin Donut shop on the left). -Make a left on 218th Street and proceed down the block to the second entrance to the Baker Field Athletic Complex (Gate C). Make a right through Gate C and down the hill to the parking area near the Columbia Boathouse.

NOTE: There is very limited parking, no more than 12-15 spots, in the Boathouse Area. For a larger parking area, when you make your left onto W. 218th Street from Broadway, take an almost immediate right into the Baker Field Athletic Complex at Gate B. Follow the directions of parking personnel to the parking areas.

-Park there and walk back to Gate B. Turn right onto 218th Street and walk to Gate C (your next right). -The Columbia Boathouse area is at the bottom of the road leading from Gate C. Walk down there and inquire of the spectator bus going to the finish line viewing area. -The bus is scheduled to depart from the Boathouse area 45 minutes prior to the start of the first race. Proceed to the first intersection and continue across it onto Dyckman, which is at a slight angle from the road you are on. -Proceed east on Dyckman until it ends. When it ends, you will be facing a modern elementary school. Turn left at the light and immediately turn into the parking lot of the elementary school. -Park there, walk back around the front of the school and into the park bordering the schoolyard. Follow the park road (it's barred to vehicle traffic) until you see an open area with a stone fence on the left. The fence marks the beginning of the viewing area for the races; that's where the finish line is. NOTE: Cup presentations are made in the Boathouse Area. To return to the Boathouse Area from the finish line, proceed back (west) on Dyckman Street to Broadway. Turn right on Broadway and follow directions above to W. 218th Street.
