New Orleans, La. - The University of New Orleans defeated the University of Massachusetts, 14-0, on Saturday afternoon on the shoulders of a 3-for-4, four RBI effort from Patrick Rose. The Privateers (3-5) crossed the plate in five straight innings en route to their second consecutive win over the Minutemen (0-2).

UMass was only able to muster six hits in the game. Senior Jason Twomley, and freshmen Dan Coury and Zach Thomas all had two hits apiece.

The Privateers opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when Alex Webster led off the inning with a home run. In the next two innings, UNO tallied three more runs.

New Orleans posted four runs in the both the bottom of the fifth and sixth to seal their third win of the year. Webster scored four runs in the game while Brandon Bowser went 3-for-6.

The biggest threat for the Minutemen came in the top of the eighth. After a Thomas double to left, Twomley walked. After two strikeouts, senior Curt Szado was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. However, freshman Matt Samela popped out to end the inning.

UNO pitcher Michael Jones threw five innings, allowing just one hit to earn his first victory on the season. Senior Keith Doherty received the loss for UMass.

The two teams will complete their three-game series on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
