Q&A with Pam Rosanio

Q: After a very successful freshman season, what did you do in the off-season to prepare yourself for the upcoming season?

A: I had mono at the end of last year so I couldn't do anything until June and then that whole month I was here working out. Then I had surgery in July and had to start getting ready for the season in August.

Q: Last year you were named to the A-10 All Rookie team and this year you were named to the pre-season A-10 all conference 2nd team. Does this put more pressure on you or does it help motivate you?

A: Well it's nice that they honor me. I think it's great but it means nothing really because they have nothing to base it on. I haven't proved anything yet this year.

Q: Have you set any goals for this season?

A: Well we have our team goals that we just came up with the other day and we all had to come up with our own individual goals to give our coach. We want to work on our defense and out-rebounding the other team. Offensively, we want to limit ourselves to so many turnovers and taking so many charges.

Q: How much of a difference is there from being an incoming freshman to being a sophomore?

A: I think it's easier because I know how to deal with a lot of different things like traveling, That took a lot out of me because we were always on the road and how to deal with classes. And then during the games to know what it feels like and to be able to deal with all aspects of the game.

Q: What was the toughest thing to deal with as a freshman?

A: Probably getting used to traveling and being away all the time.

Q: What is you favorite part about being an athlete at UMass?

A: Hanging out with teammates. We have really good bond because we're always together and getting all the UMass gear.

Q: What is your favorite part of UMass beside basketball?

A: Probably just hanging out in the dorms with all my friends who are on the other sports teams. I room with someone on the cross-country team.

Q: If you could tell a recruit who wants to come here next year one thing in order to get her to come here, what would you tell her?

A: Probably that we work hard when we have to but we have fun when we have the chance so there is a good balance.

Q: What is the highlight of your basketball career not just including UMass?

A: During high school it was definitely when I broke the record for all-time points scored for my school and then for AAU we played some of the best teams in the country and having all the big time scouts there was exciting.

Q: You're a communication disorders major, what interests you about the major and what do you want to do with it later in life?

A: I'm really sure yet, but I think I want to be a speech pathologist and work with younger kids.

Q: Is there any skill you can take from your basketball experience and use in real life?

A: I think that you have to work together and work with different people. You can't always have it your way so you have to compromise a lot of times.

Q: What can UMass fans expect from the Minutewomen this year?

A: Probably just our running game because we were a running team last year and this year I think were going to have more offense so I think that's a little different from last year.
