Atlantic 10 Announces Academic Awards

AMHERST, Mass. - The Atlantic 10 has named three members of the men's track and field team to the Academic All-Conference team.
Graduate student Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng (Accra, Ghana) was named Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year. Frimpong-Boateng also received the honor for this past winter's indoor season. His time of 10.42 in the 100-meter dash was the best time posted in the event in the Atlantic 10 this season. He earned the silver medal at the 2004 A-10 Outdoor Championships with his time of 10.62 in the 100-meter dash. The microbiology major has a 4.0 grade point average and was named to the Verizon Academic All-America team for his performances in the 2002-03 seasons.
Frimpong-Boateng is joined on the Academic All-Conference team by senior John O'Neil (North Reading, Mass.) and junior Jon Korhonen (Gardner, Mass.). O'Neil was named Atlantic 10 Champion in the decathlon with his score of 6115 points while holding a 3.87 grade point average as a communications major. Korhonen, UMass' top performer in the 1,500-meter, has earned a grade point average of 3.94, also as a communications major.
