AMHERST, Mass. - Sprinter Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng (Accra, Ghana) has been named UMass Athlete of the Week and Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Student Athlete of the Year.

Frimpong-Boateng, a graduate student, was the New England Champion in the 55-meter dash this past weekend with his time of 6.31, a new season best. He also qualified for the IC4A Championships to be held March 6 and 7. He was the leading point scorer for the Minutemen this indoor season with 55 points.

In the classroom, he has maintained a 4.0 GPA as a microbiology major. He was last season's indoor track and field athlete of the year, as well as a Verizon Academic All-American and a member of the Atlantic10 Academic All-Conference team. Frimpong-Boateng is joined on this season's Atlantic10 Academic All-Conference team by teammates senior John O'Neil (North Reading, Mass.) and junior Matt Clark (Worcester, Mass.).
