CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior forward Dalinda Banuelos (Escondido, Calif. / San Pasqual) and junior forward Adrienne Scibilia (Ringoes, N. J. / Hunterdon Central Regional) both scored two goals, leading the Boston University field hockey team to a 6-1 non-conference win over the University of Massachusetts at Jack Barry Field on Saturday, Sept. 13.
B. U. (3-1) dominated play on both sides of the field. The Terrier offense had 20 shots, while the defense held UMass to just five.
Banuelos started the scoring 8:05 into the game, scoring an unassisted goal to give B. U. a 1-0 lead. Forty-nine seconds later, senior forward Lindsey Domers (Voorhees, N. J. / Eastern) added a score off an assist from senior forward Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich. / University Liggett) to double the Terrier advantage.
With 8:32 left in the opening half, junior forward Kara Rossi (North Salem, N. Y. / North Salem) tipped in a crossing pass from redshirt freshman midfielder Erin Calamari (Chester, Conn. / Valley Regional) to give B. U. a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the intermission.
Scibilia scored the first of her two goals at 42:58 of the second half on Hubbard's second assist of the contest to push B. U.'s lead to 4-0. UMass then broke into the scoring column as junior forward Adrianne Monaco beat B. U. redshirt freshman goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa. / Souderton Area) to the ball and batted it into the cage to cut the lead to 4-1.
B. U. would add goals from Banuelos at 48:19 and Scibilia at 65:38, both unassisted. It was Scibilia's first career multiple-goal game.
Minutewoman junior goalkeeper Christine Tocco allowed made 11 saves in the contest. Prediger did not record a save in earning her third career win in four chances.
Massachusetts is back in action Monday, Sept.14, at Harvard. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
