AMHERST, Mass. - Four individuals with ties to the Massachusetts crew program, including three former student-athletes, have been selected to compete in the 2003 World Championships scheduled for August 24-31, in Milan, Italy. The United States will be attempting to qualify its 14 boats for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.

The 2003 World Championships serve as the initial qualifier for next year's Olympic Games as 130 of the 202 boat spots will be determined.

Selected to the U.S. National Team are former Minutewomen Michelle Borkhuis ('96), Wendy Wilbur ('97) and Sarah Jones ('97). Borkhuis, a Walworth, N.Y., native will be on the women's lightweight squad, while Jones, a Stanwood, Wash., product, is a member of the women's quad. East Bridgewater native Wilbur is in the women's four boat.

In addition, current UMass Head Coach Jim Dietz will coach the women's lightweight double.
