AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts crew team claimed four silver medal finishes in races against No. 15 Syracuse and Villanova Saturday morning on Onondaga Lake.

The Minutewomen finished second in the varsity eight race with a season-best time of 6:51.2, 4.2 seconds behind the 15th-ranked Orangewomen's 6:47.0 performance. Villanova placed third in 7:11.4

Massachusetts turned in a time of 7:16.4 to finish second to Syracuse in the junior varsity race, as the Orangewomen finished in 7:10.1. VU was third in 7:27.8.

UMass also placed second to Syracuse in the novice eight, as the Minutewomen recorded a 7:19.3 clocking to the Orangewomen's 7:06.7. Villanova placed third in 7:20.0.

In the lightweight eight, Villanova won in 7:22.9, and UMass was second in 7:34.0.

Massachusetts closes out its 2003 season at the Dad Vail Regatta, May 9-10, and the Avaya Collegiate Championships, May 10-11.
