Two Minutemen Playing In Cape Cod League

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior shortstop Mike Athas (Holyoke, Mass.) and junior outfielder Jason Twomley (Fitchburg, Mass.) are spending the summer of 2003 playing in the Cape Cod Baseball League. The premier amateur baseball league in the nation since 1885, the Cape League features top college players from around the country.

Play for the 2003 season began last Friday, June 13, and Twomley has been on fire for the Brewster Whitecaps. He currently leads the league in batting average (.500), home runs (two) and runs batted in (five) through the first five games of the season. Playing both center field and left field, Twomley has gone six for 12 with two walks, four runs scored, a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .563 on-base percentage.

Athas, who is playing shortstop for the Orleans Cardinals, has gone four for 18 (.222) through the season's first five games, with a double, a run batted in, a stolen base, two walks and two runs scored.
