AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts women's basketball Head Coach Marnie Dacko has announced that Brooke Campbell (Baltimore, Md.) will transfer and be eligible to play in the 2003-04 season for the Minutewomen. Campbell, a six-foot guard/forward, has spent the past two seasons at Midland (Texas) College.
"We are delighted to have Brooke join our program," said Dacko. "She has had a great two years at Midland College and will bring a lot of confidence and experience to our young team next year. She runs the floor extremely well and will add stability to our defense. She will be a great addition to the UMass family"
In two seasons with the Lady Chaparrals, Campbell averaged 7.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg and 2.2 apg. She also added 73 steals and 33 blocks in 67 career games. Last season, Campbell helped lead Midland to a 31-6 overall record and a Western Junior College Athletic Conference (WJCAC) championship, NJCAA Region V title and a third-place finish in the National Junior College Tournament. In 2001-02, Midland finished the regular season 26-6 and finished second in its conference. Campbell was a two-time honorable mention All-WJCAC while at Midland.
Campbell is a graduate of St. Francis Academy in Baltimore where she was a member of the 2000 district championship team.
Campbell is the fourth player to commit to UMass for the 2003-04 season. She joins Sha-Kia Hart (Westchester, N.Y.), Joyce Massey (Detroit, Mich.) and Tamara Tatham (Brampton, Ontario).
The Minutewomen finished 14-14 overall in the 2002-03 season and were knocked out of the A-10 Tournament in the first round by La Salle.
