Curreri, Frimpong-Boateng Athletes Of The Week

AMHERST, Mass. -- Freshman Frank Curreri (Weymouth, Mass.) and senior Kwesi Frimpong-Boateng (Accara, Ghana) were named the Dinn Brothers UMass co-Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 20. Curreri and Frimpong-Boateng were honored for their efforts on the University of Massachusetts baseball and track and field team, respectively.
Frimpong-Boateng, who was also named the co-Atlantic 10 Performer of the Week, won the 100-meter dash at the five-team UConn Invitational in 10.60 last Saturday. He also recorded a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash at 21.63. Both of Frimpong-Boateng's marks were New England and IC4A Outdoor Championship qualifying marks and are also the best times posted in those events in the Atlantic 10 so far this season.
Curreri, who also earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors, hit .429 over six games last week, with seven extra base hits (three doubles, one triple, three home runs) and eight runs batted in, recording a slugging percentage of 1.095 on the week. All three of Curreri's homers and seven of his eight RBI last week came in Atlantic 10 games. The freshman had four multi-hit games on the week and hit his first collegiate home run in the 10-8 victory over Fordham on Monday.
Curreri finished the week by providing nearly all of the offense in UMass' 7-2 win over Rhode Island. He went three for four in Sunday's game, with a double, two home runs and a career-high six runs batted in.
Curreri and the UMass baseball team will be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Boston for the Beanpot Baseball Classic at Fenway Park, while Frimpong-Boateng and the Minutemen will travel to Durham, N.H. on Saturday for a four-team meet.
