Local Swimmer Wins Weekly Accolade

AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman swimmer Greg Chartier (Amherst, Mass.) was awarded A-10 co-Rookie of the Week, announced today by the Atlantic 10 Conference. The award recognized all performances up to this point in the season, as this marks the first week it has been presented.
Competing at the Husky Invitational on Oct. 18, Chartier placed first in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:13.5. He then swam to a second-place in the 200-yard IM while also posting third-place efforts in both the 200-yard fly (1:59.74) and the 500-yard free (4:50.08). In the Minutemen's 174-96 victory over New Hampshire on Oct. 25, Chartier took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.44. He currently leads the team in the 100- (49.14), 200- (1:45.44) and 500-yard freestyles (4:50.08), the 100- (52.72) and 200-yard fly events, (1:59.74) and the 200 (1:57.73) and 400-yard IM events (4:13.59).
The UMass men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8, as they host Boston University in the first home meet of the season. The competition will start at 1:00 p.m, and will be held at the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool in Boyden Gymnasium.
