Minutemen Name Captains For 2003 Season

AMHERST, Mass. - Senior catcher Tom Ellerbrook (Northampton, Mass.) and senior third baseman John Seed (New Bedford, Mass.) have been selected as the co-captains of the 2003 University of Massachusetts baseball team, it was announced today by head coach Mike Stone.
Ellerbrook batted .167 in 35 games last season, while making only four errors behind the plate. He was named Co-Most Valuable Player of the team in 2001, when he started all 46 of UMass' games at catcher and hit .301 with 29 runs batted in. Over the course of his Minuteman career, Ellerbrook has a .248 batting average with 10 doubles and 36 runs batted in.
Seed hit .140 in 27 games for the Minutemen in 2002, starting 16 times at third base. A medical redshirt in 2001, Seed batted .268 with 11 runs batted in during the 2000 season, when he played in 32 games with 25 starts. Over the course of his UMass career, he owns a .216 batting average with five doubles and 13 runs batted in.
UMass finished the 2002 season with an overall record of 21-26 and a 9-15 mark in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The Minutemen will open the 2003 campaign with a 6:30 p.m. game at perennial Southeastern Conference power Alabama on Friday, March 7.
