RALEIGH, N.C. - Junior Yuri Morales (Santa Cruz, Calif) scored a goal in the 64th minute to give the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team a 2-1 victory over host N.C. State here in the final game of the adidas Wolfpack Classic on Sunday. With the win, UMass evens its record at 1-1 on the season, while N.C. State is now 0-2.
The Minutemen had to battle back from an early deficit as, for the second time in as many games this season, UMass allowed a goal in the first 25 minutes of the contest. After Matt Tabor was pulled down by a UMass defender in the penalty box, N.C. State's Michael Karim netted a penalty kick past UMass goalkeeper Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) to give the Wolfpack a 1-0 advantage.
The Minutemen then caught a break as just before the half, NC State's Brock Trejo received a red card and was ejected at the 39:45 mark in the first half giving the Minutemen a man advantage the rest of the way.
Massachusetts quickly capitalized on the man advantage, when Morales played a through ball to junior Jason Golesky who scored the first goal of his career at the 40:48 mark to tie the contest. The Minutemen would then net the game-winner in the 65th minute when Morales scored in a scramble in front of N.C. State's net.
UMass will travel to Hartford on Wednesday for another non-conference clash at 7:30 p.m. before opening up home action with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Boston University on Saturday.
