Baseball Downs Harvard 9-8 In Semifinals Of Beanpot

BOSTON, Mass. -- Sophomore catcher Tom Ellerbrook (Northampton, Mass.) drove in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning with a bunt single as the University of Massachusetts baseball team defeated Harvard, 9-8, in the semifinals of the Beanpot Classic this afternoon at Fenway Park. UMass is now 17-15 on the season and will take on Boston College in the championship game, tomorrow, May 2, at 2:00 p.m.
Ellerbrook went three for three with three runs batted in and junior third baseman Aaron Senez (Springfield, Mass.) went two for four with two doubles and a run batted in. Junior outfielder Mike Kulak (Bristol, Conn.) went two for three with three stolen bases, while senior outfielder Gavin Clark (Springfield, Mass.) went two for four with a double, triple and a run batted in.
Junior righty Jesse Santos (Chelmsford, Mass.) received the win in relief to improve to 5-3 on the season and Nick Carter received the loss.
