AMHERST, Mass. - Senior goalkeeper Bryan O'Quinn (Feeding Hills, Mass.) was selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America New England Region Scholar Athlete Team, the New England Region Coaches Committee announced. O'Quinn is the lone goalkeeper and one of only four Division I players to be selected to the first team.
O'Quinn, who was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team in 2000, posted a school-record 16 shutouts during his career. The co-captain became only the second goalkeeper in school history to record back-to-back seasons with five or more shutouts, blanking seven opponents in each of the past two seasons.
O'Quinn finished his career with a remarkable 31-14-3 record and 210 saves, the sixth most in school history. His 115 stops this season was the fifth most by UMass goalkeeper. O'Quinn started 47 games in net, including the last 42, and his career goals against average of 1.01 is the second lowest in UMass history since World War II.
This year, O'Quinn helped lead UMass to its first-ever A-10 Tournament championship, and was selected to the all-tournament team. Majoring in sports management, the Agawam High School graduate has a cumulative GPA of 3.69 and has served on the Student Athlete Advisory Board.
