Anke Bruemmer Earns All-America Field Hockey Honors

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts senior Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) was named a first team All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. This is the third time Bruemmer has been named All-America. She was named to the second team as a sophomore and junior. She was also named a first team All-ECAC selection by the conference coaches.
She led UMass in scoring with 10 goals and one assist for 21 points this season, and was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year. Bruemmer finished her four-year career with 50 goals and eight assists for 108 points. She is only the second player in UMass field hockey history to record 50 goals in her career. Bruemmer was also named a first team Northeast Region All-American as a sophomore, junior and senior, as well as being named A-10 Player of the Year in 1999.
The field hockey team closed out the 2001 season with an 11-10 overall record. The Minutewomen advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament and captured their sixth consecutive A-10 championship.
