Two Swimmers Earn Atlantic 10 Weekly Honors

AMHERST, Mass. -- Two University of Massachusetts swimmers received Atlantic 10 Conference weekly honors for their performances at a tri-meet with George Washington and UMBC on Jan. 20. Sophomore Tommy Keane (Melrose / Melrose H.S.) was named the Atlantic 10 Men's Swimming & Diving Performer of the Week for the first time in his career, while freshman Christen Dexter (Centerville, Mass. / Barnstable H.S.) was named the Women's Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Keane posted the winning time in the 500 free with a time of 4:44.74 in the tri-meet for the fifth fastest time in the conference this season. His third-place time of 9:58.51 in the 1000 free is the fourth fastest mark this season. Keane currently holds the conference's fastest times in the 500 free with a time of 4:36.02 and the 1000 free with a time of 9:38.90, both set versus Syracuse on Dec. 1-2. The UMass men hold the top spot in 14 of the 20 events in the conference.
Dexter broke her own school record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.79, the second-fastest time in the Atlantic 10 this season, to lead UMass past UMBC and GW. She placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.46. She previously set the record in the 200 breast on Dec. 2, versus Syracuse with a time of 2:22.20.
The UMass women are 7-2 and the men are 6-3 in dual-meet competition as they both return to the pool on Saturday, Jan. 27, when they host Rutgers on Senior Day at 1:00 p.m., at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool, in the Boyden Building.
