DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Massachusetts women's basketball team placed four players in double figures for the second straight game and defeated Dayton, 69-57, this afternoon at UD Arena. The win improves UMass to 8-8 on the year, and 3-2 in the Atlantic-10. Dayton falls to 8-8 overall and 2-3 in league play with the loss.

The Minutewomen were led by Ebony Pegues' (Columbus, Ohio) career-high 17 points, on 7-for-13 shooting from the floor. She also collected five rebounds and 4 assists on the afternoon. Also in double figures for UMass were Amber Sneed (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had 16 points and eight rebounds, Kathy Coyner (Belpre, Ohio) with 12 points and seven boards, and Jennifer Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y.) who registered a double-double wqith 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The first half was a tight game with score knotted five different times. The Minutewomen were able to go up by as many as eight points two different times during the first period, but Dayton battled back each time. The Flyers took a one-point lead into the locker room at the half with a score of 31-30 after shooting 39 percent from the field. UMass shot 46.4% in the first half, and ended the game at 44.3%.

The Minutewomen charged out at the start of the second half, going on a 23-10 run to put the score at 53-41 with 11:51 left. Dayton could not get back into the game at that point. UMass continued their scoring, going up by as many as 18 points (65-47) with 5:45 left. The Flyers were able to climb back to within 10 points after going on 10-4 run in the final minutes of the game.

The Flyers' offense was led by Stefanie Miller, who scored 15 points -- all of which came from three-point range (5-for-11). Kristy Hineline grabbed 10 boards.

UMass returns to action at the Mullins Center this Saturday, Jan. 20, as they host conference rival George Washington. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
