Cross Country Races at Meet of Champions

Van Cortland Park, NY. -- The UMass women's cross country team placed 11th and the men's team took 17th place Saturday afternoon at the Meet of Champions hosted by Iona University.

Leading the way for the Minutewomen was junior Kristin Cisowski (Salem, N.H.), who took 39th place overall with a time of 22:05. Freshman Molly Ketsckek (Wilbraham, Mass.) was right behind, placing 52nd at 22:21. The next three UMass finishers were senior Melissa Henderson (Abington, Mass.), senior Megan McCormick (State College, Pa.) and junior Katherine Blais (Andover, Mass.) as they placed 52nd,61st and 104th respectively.

Boston College (29) won the women's race and was followed by Texas A&M (94), Brown (98), Wake Forest (119) and Boston University (124). The Minutewomen finished with a score of 279.

For the Minutemen, senior Mike Pieck (Guilderland, N.Y.) led the way by finishing 63rd overall with a time of 26:00. Senior Kevin Somers (Monson, Mass.) and junior Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) followed at 84th and 109th, logging times of 26:15 and 26:32. Freshman David Mullert (Dighton, Mass.) took 154th at 27:05, and junior David Prasse (Walpole, Mass.) was next at 169th with 27:30.

Host Iona won the men's race (71), followed by William & Mary (73), Princeton (90), Dartmouth (146) and Boston University (156). The Minutemen finished with a team score of 470.

The men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the New England Championships in Boston, Mass.
