Cross Country Competes at Atlantic 10 Championship

Pittsburg, pA. -- The UMass women's cross country team placed second and the men's team took fourth place at the Atlantic 10 Championship, held today at Duquesne University's Schenley Park. The second place finish for the Minutewomen ended the streak of five straight A-10 titles.

Leading the way for the Minutewomen was junior Kristin Cisowski (Salem, N.H.), who took second place overall with a time of 17:44. Senior Melissa Henderson (Abington, Mass.) was right behind, placing fourth at 17:55. The next three UMass finisher's were senior Megan McCormick (State College, Pa.), junior Katherine Blais(Andover, Mass.), and freshman Molly Ketschek (Wilbraham, Mass.) as they placed 20th, 21st and 27th respectively.

St. Joseph's (55) won the 10-team women's race and was followed by UMass (74), LaSalle (82), Duquesne (91) and Rhode Island (92).

For the Minutemen, senior Mike Pieck (Guilderland, N.Y.) led the way by finishing 11th overall with a time of 26:08. Junior Kevin Curtin (Chelmsford, Mass.) followed at 14th, logging a time of 26:17. Next for UMass were junior Ryan Corbett (Highland, N.Y.) and senior Brendan Sullivan (New City, N.Y.) who took 20th and 21st respectively, both finishing at 26:24. Senior Kevin Somers (Monson, Mass.) finished 23rd with a time of 26:28.

St. Joseph's won the 10-team men's race (27), and was followed by LaSalle (44), Duquesne (75), UMass (89) and Rhode Island (155).
