AMHERST, Mass. - Senior lefthanded pitcher Travis Veracka (Stow, Mass.), a member of the University of Massachusetts baseball team, has been selected to the 2000 All-Atlantic 10 Conference second team. Veracka was the only UMass player selected to the squad.

This season, Veracka has posted a 5-4 record and a 3.34 earned run average. He has pitched eight consecutive complete games, and leads the team in innings pitched (70) while ranking second in strikeouts (58). Veracka went 4-3 against Atlantic 10 foes this year with a 2.94 ERA and a team-high 39 strikeouts, while tossing a complete game in each of his seven appearances.

Now in his fourth year as a Minuteman, Veracka is closing in on several UMass career records. He is currently seventh all-time in games started (30), wins (19) and complete games (14). Veracka has also moved into eighth spot on the all-time career charts with 171 strikeouts and 218-2/3 innings pitched.

Veracka has also been named to the GTE / CoSIDA Academic All-District I first team for the second time in his career, a honor which he also received during the 1998 season. Last year, he was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team and to the Academic All-Atlantic 10 squad. Veracka was drafted by the Cleveland Indians out of high school and again following his junior season by the San Francisco Giants.
