AMHERST, Mass. - Senior left-hander Travis Veracka (Stow, Mass.) has been selected to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District I University Division Baseball Team. One of just two pitchers named to the team, Veracka currently has a 3.45 grade point average in Environmental Science.

This season, Veracka has posted a 5-3 record and a team-best 3.57 ERA. He has pitched a complete game in each of his six Atlantic 10 starts, and has currently pitched seven consecutive complete games dating back to a 7-0 shutout over Yale on March 25. On Monday, Veracka was honored as Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week for his three-hit complete game win over A-10 East division leader St. Bonaventure last Saturday.

As the staff ace for the Minutemen, Veracka leads the team in almost every pitching category this season. He leads the team in games started (10), complete games (7), shutouts (1) and innings pitched (63). He is also closing in on several UMass career records. He is currently seventh all-time in games started (29), wins (19) and complete games (13). He has moved into eighth spot on the all-time career charts with 170 strikeouts over his four-year career at UMass.

Veracka was also named to the GTE Academic All-District I team during the 1998 season, and has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll in each of his previous seven semesters at UMass. Veracka was drafted by the Cleveland Indians out of high school and again following his junior season by the San Francisco Giants.
