NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - UMass sophomore catcher Chris Morgan (Cranston, R.I.) hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the third inning, giving the Minutemen a lead they would never give up. With the 10-2 win, the Minutemen improve to 11-9 overall. Central Connecticut drops to 9-15 overall.

With one out in the third inning, sophomore Scott Anderson (Easton, Conn.) roped a double down the left field line. Two batters later, Morgan blasted his third homer of the season over the right-center field fence, putting the Minutemen up 2-0.

Central Connecticut would come back with one run in the bottom of the third, but the Minuteman offense scored at least one run in the next five straight innings, extending the lead to 10-1. The Blue Devils scored one run in the bottom of the ninth on two hits, making the final tally 10-2.

Senior Kevin O'Connell (Hartland, Vt.) led the UMass offense with four hits, including his second triple of the season. Anderson collected three hits and scored three UMass runs while driving in two RBI's. Morgan finished the day 2-5 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBI's.

Sophomore Brian Hourigan (Beacon Falls, Conn.) stayed perfect on the year at 2-0. Through seven innings of work, Hourigan scattered five hits, walked two and struck out two Blue Devil batters. Matt Nelson took the loss for Central Connecticut, dropping to 1-2 on the year.

The Minutemen will return to action at home on Saturday for the first and second games of a three-game set with A-10 rival Virginia Tech. First pitch is scheduled for noon on Saturday.
