No. 13 Women's Water Polo Falls To No. 9 Princeton, 6-4

PRINCETON, N.J. -- Sophomore goalie Dana Sinkwich (Ontario, Calif.) made 13 saves, but it was not enough as the No. 13 University of Massachusetts women's water polo team fell to No. 9 Princeton, 6-4 in the finals of the Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Championship, in Princeton, N.J., on Sunday. UMass falls to 28-7 overall (10-0 CWPA) and 0-3 versus the Tigers this season. With its second place finish, UMass has qualified for the Collegiate National Championship, at Indianapolis and Bloomington, Ind., on May 5-7.
Senior Laurie Edwards (Lansing, Mich.), senior All-American Katie Grogan (Costa Mesa, Calif.), senior All-American Marci Hupp (Hilliard, Ohio) and freshman Kelly Chassy (Morgan Hill, Calif.) each scored a goal in the loss. Princeton's Katherine Kixmiller broke a 4-4 tie with 2:15 remaining in the game to give the Tigers the win.
Hupp and Grogan earned first team All-Tournament honors, while senior co-captain Claudia Clement (Piti, Guam) and Sinkwich earned a spot on the second team. Hupp scored a total of seven goals in the four games, while Grogan and Clement both scored six. Sinkwich made a total of 44 saves.
