AMHERST, Mass. - Former University of Massachusetts cornerback Jerard White (Fort Washington, Md.) has signed a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans of the National Football League, it was announced on Tuesday. White was not selected during the 2000 NFL Draft, held on Apr. 15-16.

During the 1999 season, White earned first team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association, the Walter Camp Football Foundation and The Sports Network, while being named to the second team by the Associated Press and the third team by Teamlink.com. In addition, White was named first team All-Atlantic 10 Conference, first team All-New England and second team All-ECAC. He led the team lead in interceptions this season with seven, finishing the year in fifth place on the UMass single season list for picks and tying for first in the Atlantic 10 in interceptions. White also broke up 13 passes on the year, the most in the conference and the fifth-highest single season total in school history. In addition, White recorded 43 tackles this year, with 31 solo stops and two fumble recoveries. For his career, White holds the all-time UMass record for pass breakups with 38, while ranking seventh in interceptions with 12.

White becomes the third UMass player to move on the NFL in the last two seasons. Linebacker Khari Samuel spent his rookie season with the Chicago Bears in 1999, while tight end Kerry Taylor was a member of the New England Patriots' practice squad.
