No. 13 Women's Water Polo Wins New England Championship

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Senior All-American Marci Hupp (Hilliard, Ohio) scored two goals to lead the No. 13 University of Massachusetts women's water polo team to a 6-2 win over No. 18 Harvard, in the finals of the CWPA (Collegiate Water Polo Association) New England Championship, on Sunday at Harvard. This is the fourth consecutive season that UMass has won this title. With the win, UMass improves to 25-6 (10-0 CWPA) on the season.
Senior co-captain Claudia Clement (Piti, Guam), senior Laurie Edwards (Lansing, Mich.), senior All-American Katie Grogan (Costa Mesa, Calif.) and junior Sarah Newell (Dillsburg, Pa.) each scored once in the win. Sophomore goalie Dana Sinkwich (Ontario, Calif.) was strong in goal with 10 saves.
The Minutewomen return to the pool when they take part in the Eastern Championship, on Saturday, April 29, and Sunday, April 30, at Princeton University. The top three finishers advance to the Collegiate National Championship, at Indianapolis, Ind., on May 5-7.
