AMHERST, Mass. -- Senior Chris Arsenault (Peabody, Mass.) set a new school record in the 100 fly with a time of 49.02, as the University of Massachusetts men's swimming and diving team defeated Central Connecticut, 175-83 this afternoon, at Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. UMass won 14 out of the 15 events and improve to 2-0 on the season.
Arsenault also won the 200 free (1:41.58) and the 200 back (1:56.50). Other multiple winners for UMass were senior Mike Sabina (Avon, Mass.) in the 100 breast (59.21) and the 50 free (21.53), senior Billy Brown (Fullerton, Calif.) in the 400 IM (4:04.88) and the 200 breast (2:08.85), sophomore Rob Bellamy (Columbia, Md.) in the 1000 free (10:19.75) and the 200 fly (2:04.50), and freshman Logan Alomar (Silver Spring, Md.) won the one-meter (271.80) and the three-meter (274.88) diving events.
Sophomore Tommy Keane (Melrose, Mass.) placed first in the 500 free (4:50.29) and sophomore Ryan Zaucha (Auburn, Calif.) won the 100 back (53.14). The 400 free relay team of Sabina, Zaucha, senior Joe Martin (Naugatuck, Conn.) and freshman Peter Mesavage (Stratford, Conn.) won the event with a time of 3:18.43.
The Minutemen return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 11, when they travel to Boston University to take on the Terriers at 4:00 p.m.
