Field Hockey Players Earn All-American Honors

Amherst, Mass. -- Five Univeristy of Massachusetts field hockey players were named 2000 Divison I All-Americans and Regional All-Americans by Astro Turf/NFHCA.
Seniors Kristen Schmidt (Greenfield, Mass.), Patty Robinson (Norwood, Mass.), Zowie Tucker (Neath, South Wales), Lucy Koch (Ipswich, Mass.) and junior Anke Bruemmer (Koeln, Germany) were all honored after one of the best seasons in UMass history. The Minutewomen finished 19-4 overall, 5-0 in Atlantic 10, and won the Atlantic 10 title for the fifth straight year. Bruemmer earned second team All-America honors for the second straight year, while Tucker earned the honor for the first time. Brummer, Tucker and Koch were all named to the Northeast Region First Team, while Robinson and Schmidt were named to the second team.
Schmidt started all 23 games and led the Minutewomen in goals with 14. The senior forward scored four goals in the Atlantic 10 Championship including three in the title game against Temple.
Robinson lead the Minutewomen in assists with 18 and tied UMass' all-time career assists mark with 50.
Tucker played all but 13 minutes during the year while leading the nation in goals against average throughout the season. The senior goalkeeper recorded 11 shutouts on the year with a goals against average of 0.60.
Koch started all 23 games on the year and was second on the team in assists with 14. The senior midfielder finished her career with 29 assists, which is tied for fourth all-time at UMass.
Bruemmer was a key part of UMass' nations leading defensive unit. Bruemmer was the team leader in points with 26. The junior is currently tied for fifth all-time in career points at UMass with 87.
