Minutemen Announce 2001 Schedule

AMHERST, Mass. - University of Massachusetts head baseball coach Mike Stone has announced his team's schedule for the upcoming 2001 season. The Minutemen will play 19 games in the friendly confines of Earl Lorden Field this year, including a 15-game homestand from March 31-April 18.
UMass will open the season with a three-game series at Oral Roberts from March 2-4. The Minutemen will then take a week off before heading south for their annual spring break trip. UMass will play three games at Liberty, and single games against Richmond, George Mason and Delaware State. The Minutemen then open the Atlantic 10 Conference slate with a three-game set at La Salle (March 24-25) before returning home.
Home conference dates for the Minutemen include three-game sets with St. Joseph's (March 31-April 1), Duquesne (April 7-8) and St. Bonaventure (14 15), plus a doubleheader against Rhode Island (April 22). In addition to the series at La Salle, UMass will hit the road for three-game conference sets at George Washington (May 5-6) and Xavier (May 12-13), along with a doubleheader at Fordham (April 20).
The 2001 Beanpot Baseball Classic is set for April 23-24 at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. The defending-champion Minutemen will look to repeat as champions against Boston College, Harvard and Northeastern.
Following the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in the conference will qualify for the 2001 Atlantic 10 Championship, which will take place at Disney's Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves.
The Minutemen return seven starting position players and six of the top eight pitchers from last year's squad, which posted an overall record of 26 22-1 and finished as the runner-up at the Atlantic 10 Championship.
