Women's Tennis Sweeps St. John's, 9-0

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team improved to 2-1 by sweeping St John's 9-0 today at the Upper Boyden Courts.
Freshman Francesca Mancini (Milan, Italy) inproved to 7-0 overall this season with her 6-1, 6-0 victory. Susan Hyams (Cincinatti, Ohio) won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Also victorious today were Annie Hamilton (Plano, Texas) 6-0, 6-4, Jafra Despontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii) 6-1, 6-0, Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.) 6-2, 6-0, and Caroline Harson (Arlington, Mass.) won by default.
In doubles, the Minutewomen won two matches and took a third by default. The tandems of Mancini/Despontes and Hyams/Horak were victorious 8-3, 8-0, respectively, and Katie Stammen (North Attleboro, Mass.)/Harson took the third doubles by default.
The match today was rescheduled from it's original date of Oct. 18. Next up for the Minutewomen will be a trip to Hanover, New Hampshire for a match with The Big Green of Dartmouth next Wednesday, Oct. 11.
