Women's Tennis Tops Columbia, 5-2

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts women's tennis team improved to 5-1 by defeating Columbia University today, 5-2.
Freshman Francesca Mancini (Milan, Italy) upped her overall record to 10-0 by knocking off Columbia's Shelly Mittal in no. 1 singles. Also picking up victories for the Minutewomen in singles were Helena Horak (Westlake Village, Calif.), Jafra Depontes (Kaliua-Kona, Hawaii), and Lindsey Gilloly (Stoughton, Mass.).
On the doubles court, the Maroon and White picked up the crucial doubles point as the tandems of Mancini/Depontes and Susan Hyams (Cincinnati, Ohio)/Horak picked up victories.
The Minutewomen will return to action tomorrow when they restore the regional rivalry with the Huskies of UConn. The match at Storrs will get underway at 12:00.
